Rob and I met in August of 2016 after about a year and a half of near misses. We first chatted over Match.com in spring of 2015 but I started seeing someone and we never met. Then, in April of 2016, I was on a lunch break at Pita Pit, and a group of Army guys walked in. Rob was one of them. We never met, but I somehow knew exactly who he was, remembered him from his pictures. It was a feeling I couldn’t explain, like God saying, “there he is.” So that afternoon I paid $75 to reactivate my Match.com account, found he was still on the site and sent him an email, asked if he’d been at Pita Pit that day and if he wanted to get together.
He was unfortunately seeing someone at the time and we did not get together.
Three months of bad dates went by and I was again very over online dating and ready to let it go when my best friend asked me, “then what?” I didn’t have a good answer, so I paid another $75 to keep my account going and a day or two later got an email from Rob asking if the offer was still on the table.
We hiked and biked and he taught me all kinds of board and card games and in time found we had so much in common but just enough differences to make it work. Most importantly, we both had a strong desire to serve the Lord and that’s really where we built the foundation of our relationship.
Rob proposed March 10, 2018, while out snowshoeing behind my family’s cabin on the Yentna River.
If we had met when we first had the chance, I don’t think it would have worked. I believe whole-heartedly that God knows where we are and what we need and orchestrates his plan to perfection and there is no greater example in my life than how he finally put Rob and I together. He was God’s answer to years of prayer and I know he has big plans for us.
